"All in a day's work for men in blue." from the Strait Times
This is about an article from the Strait Times, Home section, page B4.
This newspaper article is an idea driven story. The story is basically written to tell us what the policemen, or the men in blue, do in one day. The 2 main policemen written in this story are SI Tan and Staff Sgt Ridhwan. They normally spend their time responding to calls, which include pipe leakages, medical emergencies and noisy neighbors.
If they are not responding to calls, patrol officers drive around their designated patrol zone. They patrol multi-storey carparks and industrial areas -places that have been hit by crime before - to try to deter would-be criminals. Their patrols are complete including the upper levels of the car parks as they are more deserted and crime constantly happen there. In a day they managed to catch a number of criminals.
During their free time, they go to the old folks home to find out their concerns about neighborhood safety. The police officers call this "proactive" duty.
We owe the safety of Singapore to the policemen who work hard and tirelessly to prevent crime in Singapore. They are also very passionate and hardworking in their jobs. They even managed to catch so many criminals on one day. That is an achievement as criminals are smart and are hard to catch. They are also very observant as they managed to see how shifty the suspect is and saw when he left.
